The party freed more than fifty slaves from the drow of the Underdark by posing as officers of the law – or what passed for it. Calairiel suggested claiming that illithid were infiltrating drow cities by disguising themselves as slaves, a lie that the slave owners of the city were quick to believe due to Graminea and Surosar spreading rumours in city streets and bars. In just two days, the slave population of an entire city walked free, in plain sight of those tasked with guarding them.
The slaves were taken to the surface world, where Kerys created for them a small commune under the watch and guidance of Brioc, an oak tree given human intelligence. Kerys resolved to return to these people frequently and do what she could to nurture the land, though the freed slaves may choose to move to the cities when the opportunity arises.
Returning to the Underdark to continue their search for the lich, the party came across a humanoid creature foraging for mushrooms – a troglodyte. The party riled him by accidentally stepping on his mushrooms, but he was placated by the offer of help hauling his harvest back to his village.
